With a strong family background in construction, I have been surrounded by the industry from an early age and have developed a lifetime of knowledge and understanding of how quality work should be carried out. After leaving school, I started my own career in construction at just 18 years old, beginning as a roofer and spending several years developing my skills and gaining valuable hands-on experience.
After around two to three years working in roofing, I moved into the groundworks and civil engineering side of the industry, where I developed a particular passion for excavation, groundwork and plant operation. During this time, I gained recognised qualifications in excavation and plant operation, while building extensive practical experience across a wide variety of construction projects.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to successfully complete and work on a diverse range of projects, including roof installations, driveways, full garden renovations, site preparations, building footings, excavation and groundworks, road and tarmac surfaces, drainage and general construction work. This hands-on experience has given me a strong understanding of what is involved from the initial preparation and excavation right through to the finished project.
I also spent three years working in tarmac and surfacing, with a company operating throughout Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This provided me with extensive experience in road surfacing, ground preparation and finishing, while working across a variety of sites and projects. Alongside this, I spent approximately five years working as a Class 1 HGV driver, giving me valuable experience operating larger vehicles and transporting plant and materials safely and efficiently.
The combination of roofing, groundworks, excavation, plant operation, surfacing, HGV driving and general construction experience has given me a broad understanding of the industry and, importantly, an appreciation for the importance of proper preparation and quality workmanship.
I decided to establish O’Regan’s Excavation to build something of my own and provide customers throughout the High Peak and surrounding areas with a reliable, professional and hardworking service. My aim is to bring the same standards, experience and attention to detail that I have developed throughout my career into every project, whether it is a small residential job or a larger excavation and groundwork project.
For me, this business is about more than simply completing a job. It is about building a reputation based on quality workmanship, honesty, reliability and trust. I take pride in doing things properly, using the right methods and materials, and leaving customers with a finished project that they can be proud of.
Ultimately, I want to build O’Regan’s Excavation into something that can continue for generations. One of my biggest ambitions is that, one day, my son will have the opportunity to follow in my footsteps and become part of the family business. I hope to create a company that he can be proud to be a part of, continuing the skills, values and strong work ethic that have been passed down through my family and developed throughout my own career.
